Wisconsins Rock Island State Park Gets a New Wastewater Treatment System

Wisconsin's Rock Island State Park Gets a New Wastewater Treatment System

Just in time for the 2009 Memorial Day weekend, Wisconsin's Rock Island State Park received a new on-site wastewater treatment system.

Lou G. Small, Jr. of Small's Sanitary Systems of Washington Island, WI worked diligently and quickly overcoming a number of logistical obstacles to install the system before the Memorial Day deadline.  We at the McDermott Company were proud to be part of the effort.

Reproduced below is Lou's description of the project and some great photos.  For those of you wondering where Rock Island State Park is check out the following link(s).

Hello McDermott's,

Attached are some photos of the project for Rock Island State Park for the DNR.

The project was to replace a non-working public composting toilet removed last fall with a conventional septic system with flush toilets and complete it by Memorial Day weekend. We weren't awarded the job till a few days before I called Maria in Green Bay with the big order. They had the first "Flush" Friday afternoon of the Memorial Day weekend. We were done and left on the barge on Tuesday of that week.

The system is 1495 GPD and consists of (3) 1500 gal Roth/Fralo septic tanks flowing into a drop box and into (8) 80' EZ Flow trenchs. 2" pipe went into the EZ Flows at various lengths so that all effluent didn't enter trenches only at the end of the trench. A Tuf-Tite speed dialer (9) hole distribution box was used to equalize flow. This is a unique product I have used for years that you put water in and dial dialers till surface tension breaks and they are perfectly level.

Your guys and girls did a good job on short notice of getting material onto Washington Island and out to Jackson Harbor to be reloaded on barges and the DNR's new workboat for the trip over to Rock Island.

Enjoy the photo's.

Thanks to everyone,

Lou G. Small Jr.
